GreenWorks developed 3D computer models of the Hermiston Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) to help create a planting plan that strongly complements the character of the surrounding landscape while providing screening of more obtrusive plant facilities from nearby neighborhoods and roadways. We added new plantings to existing trees and shrubs within the plant to form tree groupings, or “tree baffles” – each with a distinct character – that wrap around select buildings and facilities. Tree species native to the area were chosen to further integrate the site with the native landscape. A more strongly defined entry experience into the plant provides a sense of arrival. Selective gaps in and between the “tree baffles” provide glimpses of the Administration Building and a sense of orientation for arriving visitors.
