In order to learn about watershed and stormwater, Harvey Scott School worked with the Lower Columbia River Estuary Partnership. When the school decided to move ahead with a design and implementation phase for a project, they brought GreenWorks aboard to meet with the teacher, parent and student community. GreenWorks provided services to incorporate student drawings and ideas into two options for an outdoor classroom space that treat stormwater from the school roof. GreenWorks developed the preferred options and created a master plan with clear and easy to understand grading and planting plans so that students could participate in earth moving and planting installation. GreenWorks performed construction visits to ensure the installation followed the master plan. Through education, design input, and construction assistance, the students gained a feeling of ownership over the rain garden and outdoor classroom.
