The Denver Avenue Streetscape project is one phase in the larger Downtown Kenton Redevelopment Project being led by the Portland Development Commission, covering the four block historic Kenton business district in north Portland. The initial phase of the streetscape design developed an overall concept for the street section, which included the widening of sidewalks, addition of bike lanes and the restructuring of existing parking, drive lanes and medians. This effort was guided through work with a Citizen Advisory Committee, Technical Advisory Committee and input from the public at open house meetings. A schematic phase developed an overall street layout design concept for the corridor that defined paving patterns, materials, street trees, site furniture, ornamental light fixtures and the design of gateways on either end of the corridor. An important component of this project was the integration of “green street” stormwater solutions within the right-of-way. Continued meetings with advisory committees and the public were integral to developing a final design. The Portland Development Commission and Portland Department of Transportation were the key agencies involved in this project, along with SERA Architects, who was a partner with GreenWorks in the design effort.
