The Dalles Riverfront Connections and Plaza – The Dalles, Oregon

The Dalles Riverfront Connections and Plaza

This project provides an important urban connection between the Downtown Business District and the historic Columbia Riverfront at the Dalles. It presents a multitude of architectural design opportunities for a distinctive streetscape along the four block study area boundary. GreenWorks, working closely with KPFF and Nathan Good Architects, was charged with developing a preliminary and final design for East 1st Street streetscape, a pedestrian/bicycle under-crossing of the two heavily used mainline Union Pacific Railroad tracks, and a pedestrian plaza at Washington Street. Future phases of the project will include a pedestrian/bicycle under-crossing of I-84 and cruise ship and public dock area connecting the City of The Dalles to the Columbia River. The connections will enhance community identity, and encourage economic development.
