GreenWorks, working with GBD Architects, provided an eco-roof design for a new trash enclosure at the Multnomah Athletic Club. The 320 square foot eco-roof provides stormwater mitigation that could not be otherwise met due to site constraints. An additional goal of the client’s was to use vegetation to soften and improve the appearance of this facility from the street. This was accomplished by designing an ‘intensive’ eco-roof soil profile to allow for larger, taller plants that will have greater visibility. The aspect and context of the roof allowed for a plant palette of primarily northwest native plants, such as ferns, ornamental grasses, shrubs, perennials and groundcovers that will provide a lush appearance year round when mature.
