This scenic overlook takes in breathtaking views of Mt. Hood and the Sandy River Gorge, which holds a portion of the Oregon Trail below. Interpretive signage describes cultural / historical themes relevant to the area. This project required working closely with community and neighborhood interests to create a regional attraction that was compatible with adjacent residences. The view is the “thing” here, therefore the site improvements were designed to fit into a natural setting, by using native plant materials and native basalt. The project included vehicular pavement, walkways, fencing, basalt walls, interpretive signage, and natural landscaping. Community support was also obtained by using imprinted bricks from citizen donors to build the walkways. GreenWorks was responsible for design, bidding, and construction coordination.
