The Early Childhood Education program prepares college students to work with young children in both public and private school settings by creating a hands on environment for them to work one on one. GreenWorks developed a Landscape Site Plan, and design build construction drawings for a new Early Childhood Education Center at Mount Hood Community College. GreenWorks designed three distinct areas focused on different learning environments: an area for infants, an area for 3-5 year olds, and a less structured, natural classroom for free play and exploration. Early Childhood Education Teachers at Mount Hood Community College were looking for a new approach to their play spaces. They weren’t interested in the typical primary colored playground equipment and vast wood chip areas. GreenWorks assisted the client in building a natural play vocabulary, design sense and product knowledge needed to support the development and approval of a nature based playground. Features include earthen mounds, rocks and logs for climbing, a sand and water play area, a sensory garden and art and music features. The playground aims to instill a deeper connection between young people and the natural outdoors that they will continue to grow throughout life.
