Harry Jackson Plaza

This design effort for the Portland Development Commission and residents of NE Portland was completed in collaboration with Roslyn Hill, a local artist. The intricate brick paving pattern was inspired by West African fabric patterns. The plaza is designed to accommodate a variety of special events, and uses sloped landscape planters to provide internal seating as well as a dramatic appearance from the busy intersection of NE Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Alberta Street. As lead designers of the plaza and adjacent Adidas store landscaping, our responsibilities included hardscape elements such as paving, seat walls and site furnishings in addition to planting and irrigation. We also provided options for incorporating public art into the plaza.
