Works / Waterfronts The Dalles Riverfront Connections and Plaza / The Dalles, Oregon

Dalles_Birdseye7244_Site_Analysis.aiThis project provided an important urban connection between the Downtown Business District and the historic Columbia Riverfront at the Dalles. It presented a multitude of architectural design opportunities for a distinctive streetscape along the four block study area boundary. GreenWorks, worked closely with KPFF and Nathan Good Architects, was charged with developing a preliminary and final design for East 1st Street streetscape, a pedestrian/bicycle under-crossing of the two heavily used mainline Union Pacific Railroad tracks, and a pedestrian plaza at Washington Street. Future phases of the project will include a pedestrian/bicycle under-crossing of I-84 and cruise ship and public dock area connecting the City of The Dalles to the Columbia River. The connections will enhance community identity, and encourage economic development.
