Smith Rock State Park

GreenWorks led a multidisciplinary team to complete the master plan for Smith Rock State Park in 2023. Smith Rock is one of Oregon’s premier landscapes for hikers, bird watchers, and sport climbers. It has grown dramatically to see almost 1 million visitors per year. The master planning process sought to disperse users to less frequented portions of the park, enhance the visitor experience with hiking and nature watching opportunities, prepare for a new Welcome Center, and expand parking.

GreenWorks is currently working on Phase 1 to implement the Welcome Center and parking lot expansion. These improvements are intended to reduce the parking demand on Crooked River Drive and provide a desirable visitor experience above the rim of the canyon. This phase will also include the construction of a new canyon access trail and the extension of the Rim Rock Trail to the Northern Point with scenic overlooks.

The project is funded through the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department GO Bond fund and a Land and Water Conservation grant from the National Park Service.
