Gateway Green Wins ORPA and APWA Oregon Awards

We produced a video for ORPA’s 2021 Award Ceremony. Watch it above.

Gateway Green, the park built within a Portland interchange, just won Oregon Recreation & Park Association and APWA Oregon awards!

We talked with a few of the people instrumental to its creation and even convinced a GreenWorks landscape architect to show off his mountain biking skills.

Planning and organizing for the park began in the early aughts through the work of community groups like Friends of Gateway Green and continued with Portland Parks & Recreation, Metro, and Northwest Trail Alliance.

The Oregon Recreation & Park Association (ORPA) awarded Gateway Green the "Design and Construction Award" and the American Public Works Association - Oregon Chapter (APWA Oregon) awarded it "Project of the Year: Structures, $5 million to less than $25 million".

Others involved in the project include: Portland Bureau of Transportation, Oregon Department of Transportation, East Multnomah Soil and Water Conservation District, Portland State University's Oregon Solutions program, Oregon Parks And Recreation Department, TriMet, Travel Oregon, Central Northeast Neighbors, Community Cycling Center, Eastminster Presbyterian Church, International Mountain Bicycling Association, Mt. Hood Community College, The Bike Gallery, Chris King Precision Components, and The Lumberyard.

The design team was led by GreenWorks and included: PBS Engineering and Environmental, 3J Consulting, Geotechnics, Environmental Management Systems, Inc., C2 Recreation, sparks+sullivan, David Evans and Associates, Inc., SERA Architects

The park was built by Raimore Construction, Northwest Trail Alliance, Miller Factors, and Sasquatch Trails.
