AM Kennedy Park

AM Kennedy Park is an 8.3 acre neighborhood park in Beaverton within the Tualatin Hills Parks and Recreation District (THPRD). A 2008 Park Bond provided the funds for THPRD to move forward with upgrades to AM Kennedy Park. GreenWorks developed a plan to accommodate amenities while minimizing impacts to the park’s riparian and native tree groves. Integrating flow and providing connections was very important; a footbridge was designed to bridge the floodway and wetland while providing access from the parking lot. With extensive community outreach and thoughtful design, GreenWorks provided plans for a full-size multi-sport natural grass field, field support amenities, community gardens, playgrounds, hard surface and soft surface pedestrian trails, picnic shelter, pathways, drinking fountains, park furniture, open grass areas, natural areas, landscape restoration, stream buffers, and irrigation. Sustainable features include water conservation, native planting, site planning to maximize forest preservation and urban tree canopy, wetland buffer preservation, and benches made of salvaged materials and other recycled and local materials used. The project was completed on time and on budget in 2014.
