Parks + Open Space
We design parks, open spaces, and trails with natural process-based solutions to restore habitat and foster beneficial relationships between people and nature. From regional parks, trails, and reclaimed open spaces to community parks and innovative nature play areas, we understand the importance of these assets to their communities. Our designs achieve multiple benefits and reflect a collaborative public involvement process that captures the needs of the communities we serve.
Natural Resources + Stormwater
GreenWorks brings decades of experience designing multimodal transportation systems that integrate safety, sustainability, and community vision. Our work spans bike and pedestrian pathways, downtown streetscapes, and complex parking facilities where we address challenges such as topography, sensitive natural environments, pedestrian circulation, and innovative stormwater management. By incorporating permeable pavements and best management practices, and by leading inclusive public engagement with clear, accessible visuals, we create people-focused environments that meet rigorous standards while enhancing the civic and economic vitality of place.
Transportation
We strive to integrate natural process-based solutions into urban environments that include campuses, civic spaces, and public waterfronts. By blending our knowledge of performance-based environmental design with a public involvement process that incorporates the needs and experiences of each community, we aim to capture the multiple benefits nature has on human, ecological, and economic health and wellbeing.
GreenWorks restores and designs natural systems that balance ecological health, flood protection, and community access. We have helped clients recognize the value of combining multiple objectives, including habitat enhancement, water quality, stormwater management, and recreation, into integrated solutions, and we have built a strong, willing constituency around this approach. With deep experience in floodplain and stream restoration, wetland design, and complex permitting, we create resilient places that support fish and wildlife, protect communities, and connect people with the natural systems that sustain them.
Urban Development
GreenWorks has planned and designed over 50 water and wastewater treatment plant projects that demonstrate our design approach centered on integrating the site within the community utilizing “neighborhood-friendly” approaches. This work has included planning for adjacent parks and open space, trail and boardwalk design, restoration and native planting plans, stormwater, and site-specific sustainable strategies. We have worked with interdisciplinary design teams to enhance water-related facilities by linking natural resources, recreational opportunities, neighborhoods and communities. This context-sensitive approach for integrated design is often critical for receiving public support.
