Condit Dam Removal
The Removal of Condit Dam is the largest hydroelectric dam removal project to be undertaken in the United States prior to 2012.
Working as part of the multi-disciplinary team, GreenWorks led the task to design post-dam recreational, interpretive, and restoration opportunities for the post-dam landscape along the White Salmon River. GreenWorks’ scope included providing an overall interpretive vision for the project that created cohesion across multiple sites through the adaptive reuse of former dam infrastructure.
Northwestern Lake Park, above the dam site, was upgraded to provide day-use and boating facilities, interpretive elements, and water access to the new river edge. An interpretive trail connects viewpoints along the river, with signage telling the story of the former dam and powerhouse sites, as well as other areas overlooking the restored river landscape. GreenWorks also crafted the restoration plan for the riparian and upland habitats of the former reservoir.
