Columbia Tech Nature Play Area Taking Shape

The Columbia Tech Nature Play Area is under construction! GreenWorks was hired by PacTrust to design a new nature play area within the Columbia Tech Center in Vancouver, Washington. Columbia Tech Center is a 410-acre mixed use development that includes a 12-acre park that promotes a live-work balance for the community. The new 25,000 square foot playground will become the heart of the park and will be a significant amenity for the development. Our special thanks to PacTrust and contractor, Rotschy Inc.

Portland Parks & Recreation is hosting 100 Years of Roses, the International Rose Test Garden Celebration on Saturday, August 26^th, 11:00 AM-8:30 PM. The GreenWorks team will be in attendance to celebrate the completion of the Accessibility Improvements Project, which removes barriers to access and provides accessibility upgrades to meet current ADA standards while maintaining and enhancing the historic character of the International Rose Test Garden. Celebrate Salem’s New Pedestrian & Bicycle Bridge

A community parade and ribbon cutting ceremony will be held to celebrate the opening of the new Peter Courtney Minto Island Bridge on Wednesday, August 2. Festivities get underway at 4pm. This project is the culmination of years of planning and effort by the City of Salem and Salem’s Urban Renewal Agency to achieve the community’s vision of connecting three major urban parks and more than 20 miles of trails via two pedestrian bridges over the Willamette River. This goal became a reality in part after the renovation of the historic Union Street Railroad Bridge, which connects West Salem’s Wallace Marine Park with Riverfront Park downtown. However, completion of the Minto Island Bridge and adjoining multimodal trail is the last critical link.

For design and permitting, the City of Salem hired OBEC Consulting Engineers with GreenWorks. The design integrates context-appropriate, safe infrastructure for pedestrians, bicyclists, and other trail users. Special thanks to Bob Goodrich, PE of OBEC and Aaron Kimsey, PE, Senior Project Manager at the City of Salem for including us on this great project.

In the Northern Hemisphere, peak sunlight usually occurs on June 20, 21, or 22 of the year, giving us the Summer Solstice. In Portland, that means 15.5 to 16 hours of daylight. Enjoy the extra daylight with a bike ride along the Trolley Trail, which can be reached from TriMet’s SE Park Station on the Portland-Milwaukie Orange Line. GreenWorks provided landscape architectural services for the final design of the Portland-Milwaukie Light Rail. Green is Always in Season!

NBA season may be over, but at the Moda Center, the lush new landscape is definitely in season. GreenWorks provided services for the Portland Trail Blazers’ Moda Center Exterior project. The project enhanced the Center’s landscaping with native and drought-resistant plants, provided waterproofing, and replenished the grounds with healthier soils and stormwater facilities, reducing the site’s landscaping water use by 20-30%. Hike Canemah Bluff!

It’s the perfect time of year for family-friendly hike on the Canemah Bluff Overlook Trail in Oregon City. The Camas flowers have been in bloom this spring, and Derek Sergison recently visited to take these beautiful photos. GreenWorks completed this Metro project in 2016. Sandpoint First and Cedar

GreenWorks is currently working on an exciting project in the City of Sandpoint, Idaho. The First and Cedar Streetscape Project, led by Century West Engineering, seeks to enhance the character of Downtown Sandpoint by creating a built environment that encourages and supports multi-modal transportation on a pedestrian-friendly scale. Old Youngs Bay Landing Interpretive Display Project

If you happen to be headed to the coast Presidents Day Weekend, be sure to stop at the Old Youngs Bay Landing Interpretive Display Project. GreenWorks assisted Suenn Ho, Principal at Resolve Architecture and Planning, with site planning an interpretive display near the Old Youngs Bay and Lewis and Clark bridges for the Oregon Department of Transportation. Old Youngs Bay and Lewis Clark Bridges were built by Conde B. McCullough in 1921 and 1924. Both bridges are being repaired to bring them up to code. The display consists of salvaged materials from both bridges and the rustic panels are comprised of etched historic drawings, biographical information and student poems and drawings celebrating McCullough’s craftsmanship behind the historic bridges. The interpretative display was complete in May of 2016 and is located on the western approach to the Lewis and Clark River in Astoria Oregon.

Washington Park International Rose Test Garden Accessibility Improvements Project

Now in the schematic design phase, the Washington Park International Rose Test Garden Accessibility Improvements project renovates a portion of the garden to increase accessibility and visitor enjoyment. In preparation for the Rose Garden’s Centennial Celebration in 2017, Portland Parks & Recreation tasked at team led by GreenWorks with this high-profile project. The primary goal is to ensure the public’s safety by removing barriers to access and provide accessibility upgrades to meet current ADA standards while maintaining and enhancing the historic character of the Rose Garden. GreenWorks managed a complex design team of engineers and accessibility experts providing site design, construction drawings and specification documents. An important component of the project was a 3-day design charrette with Portland Parks & Recreation and the design team, which GreenWorks facilitated. Additionally. GreenWorks provided 3D visualizations of design elements and developed presentation graphics for the public engagement process.
