GreenWorks attended the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Tamarack Park at Reed’s Crossing on Friday, July 30. The event was hosted by the City of Hillsboro and Brookfield, formerly Newland Communities, a public/private partnership responsible for the project. We worked with both entities on the design for the park from concept through construction documentation.

Tamarack Park integrates activities for people of all ages and abilities: from playing bocce ball, to skating at the skate park, relaxing in Adirondack chairs under the heritage oak tree, chatting at the fire pit, or tossing a frisbee on the big multi-use field. There are many park features to highlight, including the beautifully hand-crafted seat walls and fire pit (by Emerald Stone Masonry) near the pavilion, and the 150-year oak tree that anchors the park with meandering paths and gardens beneath its grand branches.

The park is nestled between Reed’s Crossing’s Greenway and the future South Hillsboro Elementary School, making the park an integral community connection. The event attracted lots of community members to come out and celebrate. It was exciting to see the children playing on the play structures, scooting around the park trails, and playing corn hole on a multi-use field.

“GreenWorks has been designing the parks, open spaces and water quality wetlands for Reed’s Crossing since 2016,” GreenWorks Project Manager Jennifer D’Avanzo said. “It’s humbling for me personally to have been a part of creating these spaces which provide wonderful connections to nature and to the surrounding community. GreenWorks has collaborated with both Brookfield and the City of Hillsboro on many of the parks and open spaces at Reed’s Crossing, including the 23-acre Greenway, Dobbin’s Park, Oak Grove Park, the Welcome Center, the gardens around the first phase of the development, and we prepared concept plans for design review of the BPA Corridor and City Park in Phase Three of Reed’s Crossing. The experience and relationships made over the past five years has been invaluable and we look forward to seeing Reed’s Crossing complete in years to come.”

Tamarack Park is located at 7250 SE Tamarack Street, Hillsboro, OR 97123 and is open from dusk to dawn. It is a part of the City of Hillsboro Parks & Recreation system. More information about the park can be found here.
